Step 7

Prepare for NSO & Class Registration

Now you have your NSO date selected! As a first-time student, you must complete the following steps to register for classes at ISU. Then, at NSO, you’ll meet with your academic advisor to secure your schedule.

NSO Prep 1

Complete your Pre-Orientation Modules

These online courses will help you prepare to be a college student at Idaho State University. You will learn about Academics & Services, Campus Life, Student Policies, and Academic Advising, as well as your role in making ISU a safe place to live, work, and study. The Title IX Module is required and must be completed, or you will be unable to register for courses at ISU.

NSO Prep 2

Secure your Math Placement

All students must complete the ALEKS test to determine their math class placement, unless they have received prior college credit or AP credit for mathematics, and provide transcripts and test scores before course registration. Students who have applied to ISU can take the ALEKS up to five times at no cost, and you may take it online with remote proctoring or at one of our testing centers.

NSO Prep 3

Secure your English Placement

We highly encourage all students to complete the Write Class to determine English placement. This quick assessment takes less than thirty minutes to complete and ensures a smooth class registration process. An ACT English score of 25 or above or an SAT EBRW score of 610 or above, may qualify you for credit in ENGL 1101.

NSO Prep 4

Submit Dual Enrollment/College Transcripts

If you have taken any dual enrollment, tech prep, or college courses for credit, we want to ensure we have all the necessary transcripts before you attend NSO. This will help your advisor ensure you have proper class placement for all college-level courses! If you’re still completing college courses when you attend NSO, please make sure to bring your unofficial in-progress transcripts as well!

Attend NSO & Find your ROAR!

Once you've completed the steps above, you're ready to attend NSO, secure your class schedule, and meet your new Bengal Family. After NSO, you're officially halfway through all of your necessary steps! From here, you need to finalize those last few details before your first day of classes begin. We can't wait to have you on campus!

Step 8 - Post NSO

Review your Finalized Class Schedule

You can review your schedule in your Student Profile card on MyISU. If you have questions or need assistance updating your schedule, don't hesitate to schedule a follow-up appointment with an Academic Advisor.

Contact your Academic Advisor

Step 9 - Post NSO

Download the ISU Navigate App

This app will help you stay updated on approaching deadlines and forms you need to submit and help you stay connected through study groups and meetings with your Academic Advisor.

Download the Navigate App

Step 10 - Post NSO

Request Final Transcripts

Submit final dual/concurrent credit official college transcripts upon completion. You must submit final copies, or credits will not transfer, and you may be dropped from any courses that require pre-requisite overrides.

Submit final high school transcripts upon graduation. You must submit these transcripts after graduation, or you will not be able to register for your second semester.

Step 11 - Post NSO

Secure Your Books

Once you have enrolled in classes, you will automatically be enrolled in Book Bundle, which will reserve all of your books through the University Bookstore for $24.75/credit hour. You may opt out of this program if you wish to purchase your books elsewhere. The option to opt out of Book Bundle begins in August.
